Grosseto sits on the Tyrrhenian railway line connecting Pisa/Livorno to Rome, with direct regional connections from the main Tuscan and Lazio cities: the central station is a few minutes' walk from the walled historic centre, convenient for those travelling without a car.

By car, Grosseto is reached via the Aurelia state road (SS1), which runs along the Tuscan coast connecting the city both north (Livorno, Pisa) and south (Lazio, Rome). Those arriving from inland Tuscany (Siena) can use the Siena-Grosseto expressway.

Grosseto has a small local airport (Corrado Baccarini), used mainly for charter flights and general aviation rather than as a proper commercial hub with regular passenger routes. For an airport with scheduled flights, Pisa airport remains the most practical reference, about an hour and a half's drive north; those arriving from the south might consider Rome Fiumicino, further away but with more international connections.
