Where to go in June without the crowds

June is when Italy finally stretches. Daylight lingers past nine in the evening, warm stone glows well into aperitivo hour, and the beach crowds have not yet arrived. Slipping in before the July rush means quieter piazzas, unhurried curators and rates that still feel civilised, whether you are flying in from London, New York or Singapore.
