Lucca station sits on three lines — Lucca-Viareggio, Lucca-Pisa and Lucca-Aulla — plus connections to Florence, with regional trains run under the Tuscany Region's "Memorario" service contract. It's one of the most convenient Tuscan stations for travellers without a car: a new pedestrian and cycle underpass, opened in May 2025, links it directly to the city walls in a few minutes' walk.

By car, the reference is the A11 Florence-sea motorway, which has two dedicated exits in the Lucca area — Lucca Est and Lucca Ovest — the latter also a junction towards Viareggio and the A12 motorway heading to Genoa.

Lucca has no airport of its own: the closest, just a few kilometres away, is Pisa Airport, well connected by train along the same line.
