Bassano del Grappa station is served by Trenitalia regional trains on the Trento-Venice line (via Castelfranco Veneto). From Venice Mestre, the regional train takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes with a change at Castelfranco Veneto. From Padua, the journey takes about 1 hour (change at Castelfranco or Cittadella).

From Trento, regional trains on the Valsugana line reach Bassano in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, crossing one of the most scenic railway routes in the northeast, along the Brenta valley.

From Vicenza, the direct Vicenza-Bassano line covers the route in about 45 minutes with frequent trains. From Verona, the route involves a change at Vicenza with a total time of about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Getting there by plane

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is the most accessible, about 80 km away. From the airport, the ATVO bus reaches Venice Mestre in 20 minutes, from where you continue by train to Bassano via Castelfranco Veneto.

Treviso Canova Airport (TSF) is the nearest, about 50 km away. From the terminal, shuttles reach Treviso Centrale, from where regional trains connect to Castelfranco and then Bassano.

Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN) is about 100 km away, continuing by train via Vicenza. Car hire at the airport is a practical option for exploring northern Veneto.

Getting there by car

From the A4 motorway (Turin-Trieste), the most convenient exit is Vicenza Est or Dueville, then the SP248 Marosticana road through Marostica (with its famous castle) to Bassano: about 35 km in 30 minutes from Vicenza.

From Venice, take the A4 to Padova Est, then the A13 and the SS47 Valsugana road: about 85 km in 1 hour and 10 minutes. From Padua, the SS47 is the most direct connection: about 55 km in 50 minutes.

From Trento, the SS47 Valsugana road descends along the Brenta: about 100 km in 1 hour and 30 minutes, a stunning route through gorges and villages. From Milan, the A4 to Vicenza and then the provincial road: about 240 km in 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Parking

  • Piazzale Cadorna: paid, very close to the centre
  • Station car park: convenient for those arriving by train who want to leave their car
  • The historic centre has restricted traffic zones: use the perimeter car parks

Getting there by bus

SVT (Societa Vicentina Trasporti) bus services connect Bassano with Vicenza, Marostica, Asiago and the Sette Comuni Plateau towns. From Vicenza, buses take about 1 hour.

FlixBus stops at Bassano del Grappa with connections from Venice, Milan, Rome and other Italian cities. The stop is near the railway station.

To reach the Asiago Plateau, SVT buses climb from Bassano in about 1 hour, a useful connection for those without a car.

Getting around the city and surroundings

Bassano's historic centre is compact and a pleasure to explore on foot. From the Ponte degli Alpini you climb towards Piazza Liberta and the Castle, passing through arcades with historic shops. The grappa distilleries (Nardini, Poli) are in the centre.

For the surroundings, a car is the most versatile option. Marostica (the chess city) is 7 km away, Asiago and the Plateau 35 km, Possagno (with Canova's Temple) 20 km. Monte Grappa, with its military shrine, is reachable by car in about 45 minutes from the city.

In summer, the cycle paths along the Brenta are perfect for bike excursions. The Valsugana cycle route connects Bassano to Trento and is one of the finest in the northeast.
