Viareggio station sits on the Tyrrhenian Genoa-Pisa line and on the Viareggio-Lucca branch line, with direct regional connections to La Spezia, Pisa, Lucca and Florence. Rebuilt in a more central location in 1936 compared to the original nineteenth-century building, it is now close to both the town centre and the harbour area.

By car, Viareggio is served by the A11 Florence-sea motorway, which ends right here, connecting to the A12 Genoa-Livorno towards Massa and Carrara: a convenient junction whether arriving from inland Tuscany or the Ligurian coast.

Without an airport of its own, the closest reference is Pisa Airport, reachable by train or car along the coast.
