How to get to Pesaro

Pesaro, Italian Capital of Culture 2024 and birthplace of Rossini, faces the Adriatic between the gentle hills of the Marche region and Monte San Bartolo. Well connected by the Adriatic railway and the A14 motorway, it is an easily accessible destination from all over Italy.

By train

**Pesaro station** is on the **Adriatic line Bologna-Lecce**, one of Italy's main railway corridors. From **Bologna Centrale**, fast regional trains take about 70 minutes, with frequent departures throughout the day. The Intercity takes about 55 minutes.

From **Ancona** you arrive in about 40 minutes by regional train. From **Rimini** it takes just 20 minutes. From **Milan Centrale** the journey lasts about 3 hours 30 minutes by Frecciabianca or Intercity, with no changes.

From **Rome Termini** you can travel by direct Intercity in about 3 hours 30 minutes, or by Frecciarossa to Bologna and a regional connection in about 3 hours total.

Local tip

The station is 10 minutes' walk from the centre and the beach. On leaving, take Viale della Vittoria: it leads straight to Piazza del Popolo, the city's main square.

By car

Pesaro is reached via the **A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway**, exit **Pesaro-Urbino**. From Bologna it is about 130 km (90 minutes), from Ancona about 60 km (45 minutes), from Florence about 230 km (2 hours 45 minutes) crossing the Apennines via the E45 and then the dual carriageway to Fano.

From Rome, take the A1 to Orte, then the E45 to Fano and the A14 to Pesaro, for about 300 km (3 hours 30 minutes).

Parking

The old town is partly a limited traffic zone (ZTL). **Parcheggio Centro** in Piazzale Matteotti is the most convenient (paid, about 1.50 euros/hour). The **harbour car park** has lower rates. In summer, the **park and ride** at Miralfiore operates a free shuttle to the centre and the beach. White-lined spaces in residential areas are free.

By plane

Pesaro does not have its own airport but is served by several nearby ones. **Rimini Federico Fellini Airport** (RMI) is about 40 km away (30 minutes by car) with seasonal charter and low-cost flights.

**Ancona Falconara Airport** (AOI) is about 75 km away (50 minutes) and offers domestic and some European flights. From Falconara you can take a direct regional train to Pesaro in about 45 minutes.

**Bologna Marconi Airport** (BLR), the largest in the Emilia-Romagna region, is about 170 km away but offers the greatest number of international connections. The People Mover reaches Bologna Centrale in 7 minutes, from where trains depart for Pesaro.

Local tip

For international flights, Bologna is the best choice for the number of destinations. For summer low-cost flights, check Rimini: fares can be very competitive.

By bus

**Adriabus** operates urban and intercity lines in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, connecting the city with Fano, Urbino, Gabicce and inland towns. The **bus station** is in Piazzale Matteotti, next to the railway station.

**FlixBus** connects Pesaro with Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna and other Italian cities, stopping at Piazzale Matteotti.

The **bus to Urbino** (Adriabus line 46) departs every 30-60 minutes and takes about 50 minutes to reach the ducal city: an unmissable excursion.

Local transport

Pesaro is a bicycle-friendly city, with the famous **Bicipolitana**, a cycle path network connecting the whole city like an above-ground metro. The **C'entro in Bici** bike sharing has stations in the centre, at the station and on the beach.

**Adriabus** urban buses cover the city and its hamlets. A single ticket costs about 1.30 euros. In summer, special lines connect the centre with the beaches and San Bartolo Park.

The old town is compact and easily explored on foot: from the station to Piazza del Popolo takes 10 minutes, to the beach 15.
