By air: reference airports
The most practical airport is **Bari Karol Wojtyla (BRI)**, about 200 km from Vieste. It is Puglia's main hub with many domestic and international flights.
**Foggia Gino Lisa Airport (FOG)** is much closer (about 100 km) but has few flights and limited connections. It can be useful if you find convenient flights.
Neither airport has direct connections to Vieste. Car rental is the most practical solution.
By train: to Foggia
Vieste does not have a railway station. The reference station is **Foggia**, on the main Adriatic line and the Rome-Bari line.

- **From Bari Centrale**: regional or Freccia train, about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Foggia

A car is the most convenient way to reach Vieste and to explore the Gargano.
From Foggia (about 100 km)
Take the **SS89 Garganica** which crosses the promontory via Manfredonia, Mattinata and the coast. The route is scenic but winding, with many curves. About 1 hour and 45 minutes.
From Bari (about 200 km)
**A14** motorway to the Foggia exit, then **SS89** to the Gargano. About 2 hours and 45 minutes. Alternatively, A14 exit Cerignola and then inland road to Manfredonia.
From Naples (about 300 km)
**A16** Naples-Canosa motorway, then **A14** to Foggia and **SS89**. About 3 and a half hours.
From Rome (about 400 km)
**A1** to Caserta, **A16** to Canosa, **A14** to Foggia and finally **SS89**. About 4 and a half hours.
Parking
Vieste's historic centre is largely pedestrianised and sits on a promontory.

- **Via XXIV Maggio car park**: paid, spacious
- **Car parks along the coastal road**: various areas, both free and paid
In July and August parking is a serious issue: arrive early or rely on parking at beach clubs or your accommodation.
By bus
- **Ferrovie del Gargano/SITA**: bus from Foggia to Vieste, about 2 and a half hours, with stops across the Gargano. More frequent services in summer
- **Marino bus**: seasonal connections from Rome and other cities
- **Flixbus**: some direct summer routes to the Gargano
The bus station is in the modern part of Vieste, about 10 minutes on foot from the historic centre.
Summer ferries
In summer Vieste is connected by sea to the **Tremiti Islands** (about 1 hour 45 minutes with Navigazione Libera del Golfo) and other Gargano ports. Seasonal connections to Croatia (Split) also exist.
From Foggia: the main connection
Foggia is the reference hub for reaching Vieste.
- **Ferrovie del Gargano bus**: the most commonly used option, about 2 and a half hours
- **Car rental**: the best choice for flexibility, 1 hour and 45 minutes
- **Taxi or transfer**: expensive given the distance, about 120-150 euros

- **Car recommended**: the Gargano is poorly served by public transport. A car allows you to explore beaches, caves and villages
- **SS89**: scenic road but demanding with many curves. Drive carefully
- **Summer**: traffic on the SS89 in July-August is heavy, especially on Saturdays. Leave early
- **Bus from Foggia**: works but journey times are long. Check timetables and book in high season
