How to get to Trento by train

Trento is one of the main stops on the Brenner line (Verona-Bolzano-Innsbruck), one of Italy's and Europe's most important railway arteries. The station is in Piazza Dante, 5 minutes' walk from Piazza Duomo and the old town.

From Verona Porta Nuova the journey takes about 1 hour on frequent regional trains (every 30 minutes) or 40 minutes on Frecce and Intercity services. From Milano Centrale you arrive in 2 hours 30 minutes on a direct Frecciarossa. From Rome in about 4 hours by Frecciarossa (change at Verona or direct). From Bologna in 2 hours by fast regional or Intercity. From Bolzano just 35-40 minutes.

Practical tips

• Trento is served by high-speed trains: Frecciarossa and Frecciargento stop here
• Regional trains on the Brenner line are punctual and comfortable: excellent value
• Piazza Duomo is visible from the station: just walk along Via Orfane or Via Pozzo
• In winter check for disruptions due to snow on the Brenner-Bolzano section

How to get to Trento by car

Trento is crossed by the A22 Brenner motorway (Modena-Brenner Pass):

• From Verona: A22 north (100 km, about 1 hour)
• From Milan: A4 to Verona, then A22 north (230 km, about 2 hours 30 minutes)
• From Bologna: A1 to Modena, then A22 (200 km, about 2 hours)
• From Rome: A1 to Modena, then A22 (500 km, about 5 hours)
• From Innsbruck/Austria: A22 south from the Brenner Pass (180 km, 1 hour 45 minutes)

Parking

• **Ex Zuffo car park** (Via Canestrini): the largest, paid, 10 minutes from the centre
• **Autosilo Buonconsiglio** (Via Petrarca): covered, near the Buonconsiglio Castle (2 euro/hour)
• **Centro Europa car park** (Piazza Fiera): central, underground
• **Park & Ride** at the south station (free with urban bus ticket)
• The ZTL covers the entire old town: active cameras, do not enter

How to get to Trento by plane

Trento has no commercial airport. The nearest airports:

• **Verona Catullo** (100 km): the most convenient, with shuttle bus to Verona station then train to Trento (total 1 hour 30 minutes). Or car rental (1 hour via A22)
• **Bergamo Orio al Serio** (180 km): low-cost hub, then train Bergamo-Verona-Trento or car via A4+A22
• **Innsbruck** (180 km): from Austria, then train or car via the Brenner (1 hour 45 minutes)
• **Venice Marco Polo** (200 km): for intercontinental flights, then train via Verona

From Verona airport the most practical solution is car rental with 1 hour's drive on the A22.

How to get to Trento by bus

Bus connections to Trento:

• **Trentino Trasporti**: comprehensive network from all over Trentino (valleys, lakes, mountains)
• **FlixBus**: direct connections from Milan, Rome, Venice, Bologna and other cities
• **Itabus**: Rome-Trento and Milan-Trento with daily services
• **SAD**: connections with South Tyrol (Bolzano, Merano)

The bus station is adjacent to the railway station in Piazza Dante.

Local transport in Trento

Trento's old town is compact and walkable in 15-20 minutes: from the station to Piazza Duomo is 5 minutes, from there to MUSE 15 minutes along the main avenue. The urban service is operated by Trentino Trasporti with frequent buses.

To reach Sardagna (panoramic viewpoint) there is a historic funicular from the centre. To reach Monte Bondone (skiing, trekking) you need buses or a car (30 minutes). Lake Garda (Riva) is 45 minutes by bus or car.
